This letter is to inform our school community that FMS will not be in session on Wednesday, January 12th, Thursday, January 13th and Friday, January 14th. This school closure is due to the number of sick staff and students at our school building. Flu, strep, upper respiratory and Covid are all to blame. We are NOT going to do distance learning on these 3 days. We are going to use our inclement weather/ districtwide sick day bank for these 3 days. We are out of school on Monday, January 17th for Martin Luther King Holiday, so this will give us 5 days to get our students, their families and our staff healed up to continue learning when we return in person on Tuesday, January 18th. No PTO activities at the school site during our school closure. During this time, FMS will be doing a deep clean of our facility. We do a great job of preventive measures, but since we will be out, our contracted cleaning crew will be doing a thorough deep clean of all manipulatives, doors, and environment in our buildings for the safe return to school. By doing a short closure during this time, we feel this will eliminate us to have a need for a long period of Distance Learning in the future. We are making this decision for our family’s needs as well. Our ultimate goal is to provide quality and effective instruction to our students in a safe environment. We feel that in person school is the most effective way to provide this and by making this preventive decision now, we can ultimately prevent from being out for long terms of school on sight. Our main priority is the safety of our students and staff and look forward to continuing to provide that any way we can. Thank you! Sincerely, Dax Trent Superintendent of Schools
